Shamelessley Glitzy Work - post - Thurs 8th & Fri 9th July

Tuesday, 08 June 2010 16:19

In the intersection where politicians, magicians, and techno-ravers meet, Shamelessly Glitzy Work
looks at lies and illusion, manipulation and the sheer power that comes with working a crowd. It is
spectacular, hilarious, and terrifying.

They present the work Shamelessly Glitzy Work, after rapturous presentations at Performance Space in Sydney and Art-House in Melbourne.

"Shamelessly Glitzy Work... pokes at the dead remains of dramatic performance with a very big stick that is itself hugely entertaining."
RealTime

"Anti - glamour performance artists...Oh yeah!" SMH

"With sequined curtains, buckets of confetti, lasers and lumpy goop, post's Shamelessly Glitzy Work is shameless in its glitz and fearless in its attitude."

LA

The duo Lionel Marchetti (France) & Yoko Higashi (Japan) perform an improvised butoh dance with electronic music. Lionel Marchetti is an apostle of "musique concrete" (as in "tape collage") in the age of the laptop.

His recordings document a broad spectrum of ideas, ranging from wild sonic attacks to ethereal "ambient" music. Yoko Higashi is a performer, vocalist, choreographer and dancer.

Joe Musgrove (Bris) has been recording and performing electronic and experimental music for the past 15 years.

(please give: it a moment) - Sun 4th - Thu 7th July

Tuesday, 08 June 2010 16:08
Cairns artists Elizabeth Dunn and Jessie Hall present [please give: it a moment], an interactive installation of heart/brain advice and obstacles that straddles the gap between two places.

PleaseGive

Facing the risks and the realities of their very recent move from up North to the throngs of Melbourne, Elizabeth and Jessie have created a symbolic trail for wandering and exploring in the combined gallery spaces of TCB art inc, in Melbourne, and Wallwork Studio's in Cairns.

With cardboard, bed sheets, talking heads and finely-tuned cubby construction methods, this work invites its audience to travel through dark tunnels, over hills and through hidey holes to find 'Their Answer'.

  • Sun 4th - Thurs 7th July
  • Opening - Sun 4th July, 2.00pm
  • Wallwork Studio's, 6 Hobbler St Westcourt
  • From 2.00pm-6.00pm (Mon-Thu)

Yakumo Honjin - Aphids - Fri 2nd & Sat 3rd

Tuesday, 08 June 2010 16:05
Aphids: David Young - composer, Rosemary Joy - instrument artist, Peter Humble - video artist, Yasutaka Hemmi (Japan) - violin, Takayo Matsumura (Japan) - harp, Eugene Ughetti & Matthias Schack-Arnott - percussion, Adam Stewart - woodwork, Thea Baumann - executive producer

AphidsAphids is a small, artist-led cultural organisation creating collaborations across art-forms and borders. Based in Melbourne, Aphids undertakes cross-artform projects usually involving contemporary music, international cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations.

Yakumo Honjin is a music and video installation for video, miniature percussion, violin and harp, and is inspired by a 280 year old samurai hotel located on Lake Shinji. The work has evolved from a creative development residency which took place in the samurai hotel in 2007, and performances and projection based installation presented at Karakoro Art Studio, and in Matsue Castle's drum turret.
