Nicholas Mills - Director 2010

Nicholas Mills is a dedicated independent sound/media/visual artist and independent arts and music event producer, based in Far North Queensland, Australia.

Currently, he is Director of On Edge 2010, produces the experimental performance and media series Submerge, and the left field beats/electronica events Spunk-e.

A dedicated arts manager and producer for the past 20 years, during his time at the now infamous Graft 'n' Arts (90's Cairns), Nicholas played a critical developmental role in the emerging careers of National artists such as Endorphin (www.endorphinmusic.com), Dan Sultan (www.dansultan.com), Deline Briscoe and Morgyn Quinn (Rudekat Records, Island Time Festival).

Nicholas is now focusing on his personal practice and contemporary media/performance projects. For the past 12 years, he has developed a unique approach to sound/music/media making, from absurd art/music cabaret (Falcon Krest), to avant/experimental sound/screen art (File_Error), to upbeat live mashing and remixing (DJ No_Request), to his sometimes 'band' of improvised noise makers (Dero).

Nicholas, through his aliases, is also working consistently on a various new artistic projects. More specifically at present, OtherCairns, a media exploration of the non-glossy vision of Cairns, and the opening of the new studio/artspace, "Old Hrvatski Klub Artspace".

Nicholas has, under his various guises, also worked alongside various performing artists and arts companies, including an ongoing collaboration with indigenous artists Zane Saunders, collaborations with hybrid inter-media collective Bonemap, sound design for theatre company JUTE, and various performances at festivals such as Melbourne Fringe, Woodford Folk Festival, Liquid Architecture and the Sound of Failure festival.
