+++++Thanks Artists, Partners and Audiences+++++

On Edge 2008 was a fantastic, dynamic and diverse program, and proved that the landscape for contemporary practice is thriving in the tropics. The program was an outstanding success, and we would like to thank all our valued artists, partners and sponsors, volunteers and staff, and you the audience, for making On Edge 2008 a remarkable event for our region. We just couldn't produce this style of event without such great, enthusiastic support, and we relish and thrive on those partnerships.

On Edge contemporary media + performance is a distinct Queensland event, linking Nationally and Internationally, and we aim to grow the festival in 2009 and beyond. We welcome your feedback (via email) and look forward to further stimulating and developing contemporary cultural practice in Far North Queensland.

Regards,

Rebecca Youdell, Russell Milledge & Nicholas Mills (co-producers)

=====On Edge 2008 Program Announced=====

It is with great pleasure that the key producers of On Edge Contemporary Media + Performance present 9 days of dynamic, cutting edge performance, new media, sound art, contemporary dance, screen culture and cabaret in the tropics.

Far North Queensland is a diverse and curious landscape in which to present, practice and produce contemporary media and performance.....On Edge continues to facilitate the development of new work, encourage new audiences, and build regional cutting edge practice into National contexts.

The 2008 program will host 2 unique National festivals: the Liquid Architecture sound art festival, now in its 9th year, and ReelDance - International Dance on Screen Festival, held every two years. LA9 will feature dynamic French sound artists Cédric Peyronnet (aka toy.bizarre), working since the ’90 around phonography (Field recordings, “sound hunting"). ReelDance will feature 3 diverse screenings from the ReelDance festival program, and an artist talk with screen artist Samuel James.

On Edge will continue its innovative live art program LAPS - Live Art In Public Spaces, with two multi-disciplined events in both the natural and built outdoors: Wed 23rd July at the beautifully serene and environmentally dynamic Barron River mouth, while on Wed 30th July LAPS presents a program amongst the award winning location of the Lagoon on the Esplanade.

An astonishing line-up of celebrated artists from Sydney come together to create a series of instantaneous, unique, improvised pieces integrated with live video imagery - in a new and different performance each evening, in Impro-Lab. Initiated by Tess de Quincey and Jim Denley.

For the first time this year, One Edge Cabaret presents a quirky night of diverse and strange performance, drawn from the local community of freaks, weirdo’s and eccentric artists. From burlesque to contemporary performance, let us take you on a bizarre, fun and thought-provoking journey through an eclectic wonderland.

Bonemap return as a key artistic component of On Edge with their new media and installation work, The Exquisite Resonance of Memory, and Brisbane based collective Transmute, under the directorship of new media artist Keith Armstrong, will present their new interactive work, Shifting Intimacies.

The festival winds down (or is it up) with a night of progressive electronic music and screen culture at Lo Fi, with an emphasis on contemporary groove and kook-laden beats.

On Edge strives to produce a Nationally and Internationally relevant program of independent new work, that traverse the various disciplines of performance, sound, screen, new media and installation.

We look forward to seeing you there!
