Aphids is a small, artist-led cultural organisation creating collaborations across art-forms and borders. Based in Melbourne, Aphids undertakes cross-artform projects usually involving contemporary music, international cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations.
Yakumo Honjin is a music and video installation for video, miniature percussion, violin and harp, and is inspired by a 280 year old samurai hotel located on Lake Shinji. The work has evolved from a creative development residency which took place in the samurai hotel in 2007, and performances and projection based installation presented at Karakoro Art Studio, and in Matsue Castle's drum turret. Yakumo Honjin explores the concept of 'oku' – or hidden – a theory which informs traditional architecture, garden design and music.
