Snawklor (Melbourne)

SnawklorSnawklor is one of the very few acts that can really use the word organic with any sense of truth. The band grew out of long running collaboration between Nathan Gray and Dylan Martorell, and has had a long, slow development into a thrilling live act that doesn't quite sound like anything else in Australia today.

Beginning as a duo that made electro-acoustic work in galleries, Snawklor shed skins and grew wings over a decade of experimentation and adjustment – from delicate sound installation to lap top skiddery to synth and guitar noise, Nathan and Dylan never sat still. With the addition of Duncan Blachford on live drums over the last year, the act took a new step in another direction and became a band like no other. Taking their noise into a new ecstatic space, Snawklor is a big whirling sound that levitates and excites. They need to be seen and deserve to be heard, because they might just be one of the most exciting new acts in Australia right now.

"A set of ecological constructs moving through time and space. Melody is the manure and sometimes the ants are flying the ship when everyone's in hibernation."
- Dylan Martorell, interview in Cyclic Defrost #19

"The environments we choose to play in will naturally dictate the music Snawklor will play in the future. Water music, cave music, tram music, garden music, zoo music, dog beach music, airport music, hospital music, graveyard music, sewerage plant music, wetlands music, kindergarten music."
- Dylan Martorell, interview in Cyclic Defrost #19
